The Old Boys are back...
Recently it was a funny old week with two legends of the Premier League both returning to their former clubs. These do include Thiery Henry to Arsenal and Paul Scholes back to Man Utd. Both had dramatic impacts when they returned to their former clubs with Scholes pretty much gifting Man City a goal so that they could bring the score from 3-1 down to 3-2 down and Man Utd were in the end lucky to hang on with a strong comeback being mounted by City towards the end.
Thiery Henry on the other hand made a sensational return to the Arsenal in what The Sun (newspaper) described as "Deja Voom" where Henry made the headlines with a cool finish for his 227th goal and more importantly to send The Gunners through to the 4th round of the FA Cup.
However what real effects will both legends have on returning to their old clubs?
Some people have argued that the ego's of both players are quite big behind the scenes meaning that this could have an effect on star such as Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. In the case of Paul Scholes this would come as more of a shock after only retiring from football in May but still making a sensational return ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday. Paul Scholes though is seen as a real key player for United as one of the two remaining players from Man Utd's legendary youth team that included David Beckham, Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt along with others. The other being Ryan Giggs.
The benefits of bringing a player such as Paul Scholes back to United are That he can provide experience to some younger players at united such as Tom Cleverly and Tom Keane, his another option in midfield and if the coaching rumours about Scholes at United are true then he is also a additional coach in the ranks.
Paul Scholes currently has 466 caps and 102 goals at Manchester United which is certainly a phenomenal record for a player that has managed to stay at the stop level of English Football so many years along with Ryan Giggs.
The other legend is simply one of the greatest players that the Premier League has ever seen. Thiery Henry. With 346 caps and 227 goals for Arsenal simply nobody can argue that Henry is one of Arsenal's all time greats. Many Gooners though seem to have it in their heads that Henry "abandoned" Arsenal to help strenghthen Barcalona which may I say is not the case as Henry simply moved because of contract talks with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal didn't seem to be going well. Henry returned to Arsenal on loan n January following Arsenal's well known striker crises. We also saw what Henry still has to offer Arsenal with that superb goal against Leeds United on Monday. He could potentialy be a very useful signing by Arsene Wenger.
Much talk has also been taking place offf the pitch at Arsenal with people argueing that henry does come with a big ego that effects Arsenal. This supposed ego could really effect key players like Robin Van Persie who's confidence must be sky high at the moment. It may only take a player such as Henry to put Van Persie back in his place. This may also jeaperdise Arsenal's hope of getting Van Persie a brand new contract.
