SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT

Image
So as we enter the heart of Autumn with the weather getting colder and wetter... I thought I'd delve into something a bit different from my usual Saturday night babble. A few of you may already be aware that when it comes to Winter Sports I'm a little bit of a nerd. Quite often I'm left in awe of some of the ingenious tricks and bravery of the stunts that are attempted and occasionally pulled off professional Skiers and Snowboarders. Everything interests me and excites me about the Snowboarders and Skiers. The speeds they reach and the science behind their performance is particularly intriguing. Well in early 2016 the Snowboarding Big Air World Cup is coming to London. Yeah, I'm expecting proportion of the people reading this to think "Right, He's off his head. Finally lost it" but this really is something I've been crazy about for a while. I had brought tickets and everything. Really hyped up. So you can imagine my disappointment when the organi...

AUGUST IS INSANE

Image
"I would describe Kelston as my biggest achievement to date. To have founded and run the project has had a huge impact on me over the last 5 years, the success stories for the young people involved and the young coaches have made me incredibly proud" - Joe Ryan (founder of Kelston RD Football) As July comes to close, I thought I'd give people an insight into two projects that I will be involved in for August that I'm excited about for different reasons. The first project is Kelston Road Football which I will be coaching at for a 5th year running. This initiative may sound familiar to quite a few of you as I produced a different piece on the initiative last year ( http://chippsport.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/intiative-like-no-other.html ) so if you'd like some details on what the initiative is then you can see in between the brackets.  This year is quite a special one to be part of the initiative. Firstly due to the fact that the initiative is...

SHAMESBURYS FIASCO

Image
This is a complicated fiasco. A story filled with rumours, accusations, law and a apparent "watertight" contract. It's a story that has left Bristol Rovers in the midst of a make or break decision that could spell severe financial trouble for the club. On 13th July, Sainsbury's had won a High Court clash with Bristol Rovers over a £30m contract. A court case that has dragged for a long time much to the rising anxiety levels of Bristol Rovers associates and fans. Had the contract been honoured then it would've seen Sainsbury's purchase the Memorial Stadium in order for them to potentially re-develop the site to create a brand new store. This in turn would've given Bristol Rovers to financial availability to build a new 21,700 seated stadium in partnership with the UWE Stadium. Now, I'm a Bristol Rovers fan. It's my boyhood club from a young age. My dream was to play for them from a young age. None of these big clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester...

10 YEARS TIME

Image
So as we approach the end of another academic year I've had a bit of time to reflect and ponder over how a whole first year at University has gone. However, as many of my own thinking processes gradually progress they also have a habit of veering very off-topic and drifting off into a completely irrelevant topic. This is just a brief warning that this blog is literally myself thinking out loud. The first thought that has gone through my mind is how incredible this first year has been. The shear volume of things I've learnt and people I've met has been crazy. The year ends with an element of excitement and enthusiasm for the second year. There will usually come a time when people get to sit down and ponder their future, have a think about what the next step is and where they want to be. That kind of brings us on to the title of this article. While reading feel free to give this song to put you in the mood so you can enjoy it...

WATSAL? WOULD THAT WORK?

Image
For the past year a new type of football has been growing alarmingly fast. That phenomenon is of course Walking Football which has seen participation numbers up and down the UK soar. So what happens when you mix that with a technically challenging activity like Futsal? I should probably explain what Walking Football is...  It's pretty simple really, Just football with the same rules and restrictions but you're not allowed to run. It is stereotypically targeted at older people and has had many proven benefits. These include increased social interaction, health benefits and overall increased confidence. This is as well as receiving a monumental amount of praise from the FA.  If you've had a chance to read some of my previous blogs then you may well be aware of what Futsal is and what it's about. It's fast paced, exciting, competitive and arguably requires a high amount of skill to be successful. So is it possible that both of these sports can be fused together...

BEING A BETTER YOUNG PERSONALITY

Image
"If what you are doing is not working, be innovative and do something different" Anonymous Been a while since I've written one of these. So I'm a little rusty. I have written at least 4 blogs over the last two months but all I decided were not good enough to do anything with. That includes this one for reasons that will become apparent and obvious as you read on. Today though I just want to speak about some of pressures I've found being a "young leader" which I still think is one of the most cringey names to call young volunteers. So yeah... "Be a role-model"  If you're like me and are a massive over-thinker then you'll understand how painfully annoying it can be at times. It's ups and downs. It can allow you to provide sensational attention to detail when creating session plans or writing abstracts. Or alternatively it makes you extremely indecisive about small decisions such as buying presents...
