Liverpool:50 million Down-in the drain
So it's been a frustrating year for Liverpool or should I say last couple of years but have they really improved these last couple of years?
Lets just have a look at who they brought and let go in the summer of 2011:
Jordan Hendersen: 16m
Charlie Adam: 9m
Stuart Downing: 20m
Alex Doni: free
Jose Enrique: 5.5m
Sabastien Coates: 7m
Now out of all those signings which one's would you say have performed this season?None.
All are good players at clubs like Villa, Newcastle, Sunderland and Blackpool but can they do it on the big stage. I will say though about Liverpool that next season they will probably be the "dark horses" of the Premier League because of players like Henderson, Downing and Carroll have had to come in and perform for a MASSIVE club. Next season for them will be a fresh start and they will grow in confidence after a pre-season, be more experienced in these big occasions, be fitter and stronger. You have to keep in mind that it took Stuart Downing a season to really calm down and start playing well at Villa, It took Charlie Adam ages to break into a good premier league player. These players at Liverpool will only get better with time.
As for this season. Many people have been critical of Andy Carroll and I can't help but feel that he is really feeling the pressure at Liverpool. Replacing Fernando Torres, a 35m price tag on his head, Liverpool number 9 shirt.. All these things create massive pressure for a young guy and unfortunately it has lead to 5 goals in 35 games. Between Carroll, Henderson and Downing they have notched up 6 goals between them which is a abysmal stat. Liverpool DO have the making of a good team there. This season they have not been helped by the whole Luis Suarez racism saga which had also knocked Liverpool slightly. A real season to forget but what I think Liverpool need is a new centre back and centre midfielder. Possibly Ryan Shawcross as a new defender as he ticks all the boxes for Liverpool. What about Christian Eriksen as a centre midfielder for Liverpool? Kenny Dalglish has a interesting summer ahead.
